What is Obsidian BLCK?
BLCK is an idea, not a sport.. the goal, ambition and ethos is to do what it takes to build the most complete working protection dog the industry has ever seen.
Being a participant means; representing a programme that wants to further the understanding of the dog as an animal as well as an extension of its working capabilities.
The pinnacle of the movement is the Black Collar Dog.
A black collar dog is the peak of control, relationship and understanding between dog and handler.. A team of perfect utility and understanding between handler and dog. BLCK includes training not just protection, but control, life skills and nose work too.
A grading system adopted from Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Built on the same ethos of respect, discipline and camaraderie, a team of people working towards one goal, but actively enjoying the journey. Starting with white, as a beginner, progressing through blue, purple, brown and black, handlers and dogs will be graded separately on their ability, attitude, roundedness and ethos.
We also have a second programme within BLCK called ‘BLCK Zoekhond (Zh). This is a programme designed for dogs who have completed the BLCK grading system and wish to start a second journey, or for dogs who are more suited to a slightly different flavour.
BLCK Zh is a programme based around the nose of the dog, whilst remaining in the protection based sphere. Dogs must perform the same high standard of obedience and life skills as the BLCK dogs but whilst bitework is not included, a far more extensive nose based protocol is a must.
All BLCK Zh dogs must perform at least one detection based behaviour in line with protection training (Drug detection, Explosives, Cash etc), they must also perform at least 2 search behaviours. (Small article search, Weapon search, Search for a victim etc) and finally they must have an extremely high standard of tracking including multiple surfaces over very long distances.
BLCK Zh runs the same grading system as BLCK with the slight change that the graded collars are grey and the grading is in a colour on the collar. This is to differentiate the two grades and two journeys.
We have clubs in both South Yorkshire and Coventry.
South Yorkshire meets are Wednesday evening and Saturday day.
Coventry meets are every Thursday evening and Sunday evening.
All members of BLCK are invited to train at either facility on any day they wish.
